Colorado Lightning Scholarship Program

At Colorado Lightning, we believe that every young athlete with a passion for basketball should have the opportunity to develop their skills and reach their full potential. Our scholarship program is designed to provide financial assistance to talented and dedicated players who may not otherwise be able to afford the costs associated with competitive basketball.

Who Qualifies?

Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Financial Need: We prioritize applicants who demonstrate a genuine need for financial assistance within our defined income tiers.

  • Basketball Ability: Applicants should exhibit a strong aptitude for basketball, including skills, athleticism, and a commitment to improvement.

  • Character and Sportsmanship: We seek players who demonstrate positive character traits and respect for teammates and opponents.

  • Dedication and Work Ethic: Successful applicants are expected to be the hardest workers, arriving first and leaving last.

For more detailed information on eligibility criteria and player expectations, please refer to the Scholarship Agreement PDF.

How to Apply

To be considered for a scholarship, families must complete a two-step application process. Please note: We will not review applications until both the signed agreement and the supporting documentation are received.

Step 1: Complete the Agreement

Download and print the Scholarship Agreement PDF. Both the player and parent must sign this document to acknowledge our standards for attendance, grades, and conduct.

Step 2: Provide Proof of Eligibility

Submit one of the following documents to verify your household’s Gross Annual Income. We have listed these in our order of preference:

  1. Most Preferred: Federal Tax Return (Form 1040) A copy of the first page of your most recent Federal Tax Return.

  2. Secondary Option: School Benefit Letter An eligibility letter for the National School Lunch Program (Free or Reduced Lunch).

  3. Alternative: Proof of Government Assistance A current statement or proof of participation in SNAP, TANF, or other state/federal assistance programs.

Important Privacy Instruction: For your security, please redact or cover all Social Security Numbers and bank account information on any documents before sending. Whether you are scanning the document or taking a photo of it, we only need to see the Name, Date, and Gross Income figures.

Note: We no longer accept individual pay stubs as they do not provide a complete view of annual household income. Please provide one of the official documents listed above to ensure your application can be processed.

Submission Instructions

Email your signed agreement and your chosen proof of eligibility to harmont@gmail.com. A decision regarding assistance will be made following team tryouts for the current season.
